  • Personalize it
Personalizing your bathroom design involves size, configuration, and style. Before you start your project, think carefully about what you like and dislike about your present bathroom.Do you need more space in the master bath or just a spacious floor plan that lets two people share the room more comfortably? Is there enough counter space and storage space? Once you have an idea of what you want to change, start identifying solutions that appeal to you. Look through home design and decorating books and magazines, and tag or photocopy pages showing bathroom designs and products you like.
  • See the light
Lighting choices are pretty much endless. From bath bar lighting to strip lighting, vanity lights, recessed shower lighting and everything in between. All of these choices help to set the tone and design style of your bathroom. Do your research and choose what you love and what amount of light you require, not what you think others will like. And don’t forget dimmers, chandeliers and sconces.
  • Top it off
Since bathroom countertops are less active then the kitchen, we can worry less about functionality and more about appearance. That’s good news since bathroom countertops are generally custom-made, leaving the style and design options wide open to personal taste. Stainless-steel countertops are low maintenance and look great in a contemporary bath. Other choices are Cultured marble, Granite, Manufactured Quartz, Tile (grout has always been the issue here),  and there are solid surface materials Known by their brand names such as Corian, Staron, Gilbraltar and Avonite, this easy-to-maintain synthetic product can be molded to fit any design specification.

  • Sink or swim
Most people don’t realize that there is such an abundance of choices when it comes to the bathroom sink. Sink choices range from stainless steel, wall mount, vessel, under mount, stone, copper, pedestal, we could be here all day. Let’s just say, do your research. The possibilities are almost endless. Keep in mind it needs to be functional and still fit into your design style.Vessel sinks are very popular, but under mount are the most common and seem to be most functional for the average homeowner.
  • Get Floored
The choices of bathroom flooring are virtually endless. From ceramic tile to vinyl  and laminate to hardwood, your bathroom flooring options are only limited by your imagination and budget. It is also important to look at bathroom flooring in the larger picture. While hardwood is beautiful to look at, it can also hold a serious issue for the possibility of future water leaks. If you choose ceramic tile you may want to consider an under-floor heating rug for when you step out of the shower.  Be sure to keep in mind as well of the moisture levels in the bathroom area. Due to the water element in the bathroom it has a much higher level of humidity. With that in mind choose what you love and will be most functional for you and your family.
